Giving Back for Black Friday

____

It just didn’t feel right to participate in the consumerism of Black Friday this year without giving back, too.

We have decided that moving forward, our "Black Friday" special will be charity-based, and each year we will pick a cause and donate 20% of our proceeds for the week of BF. After this dumpster fire of a year, it was SUPER hard to pick a charity (or even a cause), since just about everyone needs help!

From Thanksgiving through the end of November, we're donating 20% of our proceeds to Everytown for Gun Safety.

The issue that we picked this year is gun reform. As the parent of a very small child, this issue feels really pressing right now.  We chose Everytown for Gun Safety because they are directly going up against the NRA to try to pass common sense gun reform.

About Everytown:

Every day, 96 Americans are killed with guns. The gun homicide rate in the U.S. is 25 times higher than that of other developed countries, but research shows that common-sense public safety laws can reduce gun violence and save lives.

Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund is an independent, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to understanding and reducing gun violence in America.

Some quick stats:

  • Every day, 96 Americans are killed with guns and hundreds more are shot and injured.
  • In an average month, 50 American women are shot to death by an intimate partner, and many more are injured.
  • Firearms are the second leading cause of death for American children and teens and the first leading cause of death for Black children and teens.

And what do we hear from our government? Mostly just some infuriating nonsense about how that school/grocery store/place of worship should have had armed security. Remember earlier this year when there was legitimate talk about arming elementary school teachers? Obviously, that's not the answer. We are past the time for thoughts and prayers. We need to protect our citizens, not our guns. We need to protect our kids.

Thank you for helping us make a difference! We also encourage you can to donate to Everytown directly on their website if you prefer.
