It’s All in the Details: Watercolor and Letterpress
We’ve had a lot of requests lately for watercolor backgrounds with our custom letterpress and/or foil stamped artwork, which is awesome because it happens to be one of our favorite combinations of techniques. A watercolor wash makes each individual piece unique, and adds a layer of texture and color that really brings a “wow!”factor to the design.
We start by painting the paper itself with watercolor paint (yes, every single page), before printing or trimming. We can even create an ombré, or gradation, with watercolor behind the design. Then, we like to add our hand lettering or illustration into the mix, to truly make the invitation one-of-a-kind.
Price-wise, a 1-color watercolor under a 1-color letterpress generally works out about the same as a 2-color letterpress print. We can also digitally print the watercolor into the background before letterpress printing or foil stamping your artwork.
