Cincinnati’s American Sign Museum
Last week I was in Cincinnati visiting my family. While we were there, we visited what I think is my favorite museum ever (and that’s saying a LOT)… the American Sign Museum. We were lucky enough to show up just as the owner himself was starting the tour, so we learned more than I ever thought I would know about the history and technology of signage.
And the LETTERS!
The front of the museum follows the history of signage, from hand painted, to candle and lightbulb-lit enamel, to neon, to molded plastic, and includes examples from all over the country. In the back half, they’ve created an actual “Main Street,” complete with historically accurate storefronts.
And the best part- they have an event space in the back! I seriously have my fingers crossed that one of my brides someday gets married here (please please please!)
They also have a working Neon shop, NeonWorks of Cincinnati, attached to the museum, and brought us it there to tour it too. Now I’m really obsessing over the idea of creating a custom neon sign– just need the right project ;)
So much inspiration here. Go to this museum!!
